Bulk Update Option Groups on Base Menu Items

Attach the same option groups to many Base Menu items at once instead of editing them one by one.

Written by Kate Khunvirojpanich

What is this?

When you build a Base Menu, every item can have its own option groups — modifiers like sizes, toppings, milk choices, or ice levels. Attaching the same option groups to dozens of items one at a time is slow, especially for bars or large catalogs where the same modifiers (e.g. Ice Level, Sweetness, Add-ons) apply to most drinks.

Bulk update option groups lets you tick a list of Base Menu items and attach the same set of option groups to all of them in one save.

When to use it

  • New shared modifiers — you just created an Ice Level option group and need to attach it to every drink on the Base Menu.

  • Multi-outlet brands — every outlet inherits from the same Base Menu, so a single bulk update propagates to all of them automatically.

  • Catalog cleanup — standardising option groups across a category (all coffees, all pizzas, all curries) without re-opening each item.

How to bulk update option groups

  1. Go to Settings → Base Menu and open the Base Menu you want to edit.

  2. Open the Menu Items tab.

  3. Click the 3-dot menu next to Add new in the top-right toolbar and pick Bulk update items. Checkboxes appear on every row.

  4. Tick the items you want to update. You can use the header checkbox to select every visible row, or filter/search first and then select all.

  5. Click Actions → Update option groups.

  6. In the overlay, pick the option groups to attach, then click Save.

  7. A success toast appears (e.g. "5 items are updated") and the overlay closes.

  8. Click Cancel in the toolbar to leave selection mode and return to the normal items view.

What gets updated

Field

Behaviour

Option groups

Replaced with the set you choose in the overlay — for every selected item.

Name, price, description, image

Untouched.

Tags, printer groups, availability, inventory tracking

Untouched. Each of these has its own bulk action in the same Actions menu.

Outlet-level overrides

Untouched. This action only changes the Base Menu item — outlets that override option groups locally keep their override.

‼️ The chosen option groups replace the existing list on each selected item — they are not merged. If an item already had Sweetness attached and you save with only Ice Level selected, Sweetness is removed from that item.

FAQ

  • Do I need to publish after? No. Base Menu changes take effect immediately across every outlet using this Base Menu.

  • Can I do this on a per-outlet override? Not yet — bulk update of option groups is only available on the Base Menu itself. Outlet-level overrides still have to be edited one item at a time.

  • How do I add a new option group before attaching it? Create it under Settings → Base Menu → Option Groups first, then come back to Menu Items to bulk-attach it. See Option Groups.

  • What if I picked the wrong items? Cancel from the toolbar or untick rows before saving — nothing is written until you click Save in the overlay.
