What is the Base Menu?

The Base Menu is your single source of truth for all menu items, prices, descriptions, option groups, menu item groups, and tags. Instead of duplicating items across different menus (lunch, dinner, delivery), you create everything once in the Base Menu and reference those items wherever needed. Navigate to Settings → Base Menu to manage it.

Base Menu structure

The Base Menu contains these tabs:

Tab

What it contains

Menu Items

Individual dishes with names, prices, descriptions, images, and availability

Option Groups

Modifiers like toppings, sizes, and spice levels (see Option Groups)

Menu Item Groups

Bundled item selections for combos and meal deals (see Menu Item Groups)

Tags

Dietary and marketing labels (see Tags)

How menus work with Base Menu

  1. Create items in the Base Menu (menu items, option groups, tags, etc.)

  2. Create menus in the Menu section (e.g. Lunch Menu, Bar Menu) with their own time availability and ordering channels

  3. Add categories to each menu, then select items from the Base Menu to populate them

‼️ Changes to a Base Menu item are reflected everywhere that item is used. Update a price once and it updates across all menus and outlets.

Outlet-level overrides

Each outlet can override parts of the Base Menu without changing the original. Per-outlet overrides include:

  • Menu name — rename a menu for a specific outlet

  • Ordering channels — control which channels (dine-in, takeaway, delivery) show the menu at this outlet

  • Time availability — set different operating hours per outlet

  • Category filtering — show only selected categories from the base menu at this outlet

  • Display order — reorder menus differently per outlet

This means one Base Menu can power multiple outlets with different configurations without duplicating your items.

Assigning a Base Menu to an outlet

Go to Settings → Outlets, select the outlet, and choose a Base Menu from the dropdown. Changes take effect immediately — there is no separate publish step.

FAQ

  • Can I have multiple Base Menus? Yes. This is useful for very different concepts or brands operating from the same merchant account (e.g. a restaurant and a bakery).

  • What happens if I delete an item from the Base Menu? It is removed from all menus that reference it. Historical sales data is preserved.

  • Do I need to publish changes? No. Changes saved to the Base Menu take effect immediately across all outlets and menus using it.
