Option Quantity in Option Groups

The maximum quantity per option setting allows customers to select the same option multiple times within an option group. This is useful for bundles like a “Box of 6 donuts,” where customers may want multiple pieces of the same flavor.

What does this feature do?

Allows customers to select multiple of the same option within an option group (modifier group).

Works with all option group modes:

  • Required (exactly) – e.g. select exactly 6

  • Required (between) – e.g. select between 1 - 6

  • Optional – e.g. select up to 6

Displays quantity controls (+ / − buttons) in the customer ordering screen. Prints quantities clearly on receipts and tickets (e.g. 3x Chocolate donut).

Example:

If you sell a Box of 6 donuts with flavors:

  • Chocolate

  • Strawberry

  • Vanilla

Customers can select:

  • 6 Chocolate or

  • 3 Chocolate + 3 Strawberry or

  • 2 Chocolate + 2 Strawberry + 2 Vanilla or

  • Other combination as they wish

What this feature does not do?

❌ Change behavior when Maximum quantity per option = 1 (default setting).

❌ Apply to items that do not have option groups.

❌ Add quantity support to standalone options outside of option groups.

How to Set It Up

Where to find it?

  • In Base Menu > Settings → Base menu → Options → Edit an option group

  • In Outlet-Level Menu > Menu → Outlet-level options → Edit an option group

When does Settings appear?

The Maximum quantity per option field appears only when the option group allows more than one total selection, such as:

  • Select exactly 6 or

  • Select between 2-5 or

  • Select up to 6

If the group only allows one selection, this field will not appear.

What does Settings explain?

Maximum quantity per option defines how many times each individual option can be selected. For example: If customers must select exactly 6, you can set Maximum quantity per option = 6, this allows all 6 selections to be the same option.

The maximum per option must be less than or equal to the total allowed selections. Example: If the group is Select exactly 6, the maximum per option must be ≤ 6. Default value is 1 (each option can only be chosen once).

How it looks during ordering

When enabled:

  • Customers see checkboxes with + / − quantity buttons

  • They can increase or decrease quantities for each option

  • The total must match the group requirement (e.g. exactly 6)

On receipts and print tickets:

  • Quantities greater than 1 show as 3x Chocolate

  • Quantity of 1 displays normally (without “1x”)

Important Considerations

Partner / Delivery Integrations

We recommend testing on each partner platform if you use integrations. Some delivery partners (for example, Grab) may not support option quantities.

Instead of quantity buttons, their app may:

  • Show multiple “slots” for selection

  • Display repeated option rows instead of quantity controls

Validation Rules

  • Maximum quantity per option cannot exceed the total allowed selections.

  • The system will prevent invalid configurations.

Best Practice

Keep the maximum per option aligned with your real packaging rules to avoid confusion during ordering.

Use this feature for:

  • Bundles (e.g. donut boxes, cupcake sets)

  • Build-your-own packs

  • Multi-piece meal sets
