Open Items — Add Off-Menu Items on the Fly

Quickly add one-time items to orders from the POS with a custom name and price — tracked in reports like any other item

Sometimes a customer requests something that isn’t on your menu — a custom cocktail, an off-menu dish, or a special request. Rather than entering it under a different item name (which would skew your sales data), you can use open items to add it on the fly with the correct name and price.

How to add an open item

  1. Open the table order on the POS screen

  2. Tap + Open item at the top of the order

  3. Enter the item name and price

  4. Submit

The item appears immediately in the order for both staff and customers, on the bill, and in your sales reports.

When to use open items

  • A customer requests an off-menu item you can make

  • You need to charge for something not yet added to the menu (e.g. a new special)

  • Miscellaneous charges (e.g. corkage fee, extra plate charge)

Good to know

  • Open items appear in your sales data under the name you enter, keeping your reporting accurate

  • They are one-time entries — if you find yourself using the same open item often, consider adding it to your menu permanently

  • Open items are POS-only — customers cannot add them from the ordering app
