Every outlet already holds stock. A location is somewhere that holds stock but does not sell — a central kitchen, a warehouse, a prep site. It has no POS and no menu, just inventory.

Your outlets appear as locations automatically. You only create a location for the places that are not outlets.

Go to Inventory → Locations and choose Add location.

Once you add your first location, a location switcher appears at the top of the Inventory menu. Before that it stays hidden, because there is nowhere to switch to.

Locations are archived rather than deleted, so their history stays intact. Open the location and switch Active off.

A location must hold no stock and have no open transfers before it can be archived. If it still does, you will see either “This location still holds stock” or “This location has open transfers” — clear those first, then archive.

Archived locations disappear from the switcher and from transfer pickers, but stay on the Locations page with an Archived badge so past transfers and movements remain readable.

Creating and editing locations needs the Manage inventory locations permission. Without it, the Locations page is read-only — the list is visible, but Add and Edit are not.

Not to how it behaves. Central kitchen, Warehouse, Prep site and Location change the icon and the label, nothing else — a location holds stock, counts and buys the same way whichever you pick. Choose whichever your team will recognise on a list.

Any two places that hold stock can trade, in either direction:

Archived outlets and archived locations cannot be either end of a transfer — they are refused when you pick them, so an old site cannot quietly receive stock.
