When guests decide to sit together — two groups joining up, or one party spread across tables asking for a single bill — you can merge one table into another. Every unpaid item moves to the destination table's bill, and the original table closes and frees up on your floor plan.
ℹ️ Merging is available on Papaya POS with direct printing, for dine-in tables only.
Merge, move order, or move items?
You want to… | Use |
Combine one table's bill into another occupied table | Merge order |
Move a whole order to an empty table | Move order |
Move some items to another table | Move items |
How to merge a table
On the POS, open the order of the table you want to close (the one whose items should move away).
Tap More actions → Merge order.
Pick the destination table. Only tables that already have an active order are shown — to send an order to an empty table, use Move order instead.
Review the note — "All unpaid items will move to [table] and this table will close." — and tap Merge order to confirm.
What happens after the merge
The destination table's bill now includes all items from both tables — service continues there as normal.
The original table closes with the status Merged and frees up on your floor plan.
The original order is kept as a read-only record. Its details show Merged into with the destination table and order number, and you can find it any time under the Merged tab on the Orders page.
Cancelled items stay on the original order's record — they don't clutter the destination bill.
The merge is recorded in the Order Action Log of both orders, so you can always trace who merged what, and when.
Let the kitchen know
With direct printing, Papaya can print a merge ticket so kitchen and bar staff know the items now belong to a different table. This is on by default and can be turned off per printer group under Settings → Printing → Printer groups → Print merge table tickets.
Rules to keep in mind
The table being merged must have no payments yet. If a deposit or partial payment has already been taken, the merge is blocked — use Move items to move the unpaid items instead, and settle the paid portion on the original table.
Both tables must be dine-in tables.
There is no one-tap undo. If you merged the wrong tables, use Move items to move the items back.
FAQ
Why doesn't the table I want appear in the list?
Only occupied dine-in tables are shown. If the destination table is empty, use Move order instead — the result is the same: the order lands on that table.
Can I merge more than two tables?
Yes — repeat the merge for each additional table, always merging into the table where the group is sitting.
What does the "Merged" status mean on my Orders page?
It marks the emptied original order. It's kept for your records (and the action log), holds no items or payments, and doesn't count as a cancelled or completed sale.
