Splitting a Bill — Evenly, by Items, or Custom Amount

Three ways to split a bill on the POS — share evenly between guests, pay for individual items, or take any custom amount.

When a table wants to split the bill, the POS gives you three ways to do it. Pick the one that matches how the guests want to pay.

When to use each option

Option

Best for

Split evenly

A group splitting the total equally (e.g. dinner for 4)

Split by items

Each guest pays for what they ordered

Custom amount

Anything else — partial payments, room charge for one guest, mixed methods

How to start a split

From the order details, tap Pay, then choose Split payment. You'll see the three options above. Pick one to continue.

Split evenly

Divides the outstanding total into equal shares.

  1. Enter the Number of splits (defaults to the order's guest count when set, otherwise 2)

  2. Tap Proceed

  3. For each split, pick a payment method (cash, card, QR, etc.) — each guest can pay differently

Rounding: Because amounts are in two decimal places, a ฿120.57 bill split in two becomes ฿60.29 and ฿60.28. The POS handles this automatically.

Split by items

Each payer selects which items they're paying for. Useful when one guest had the steak and another had a salad.

  1. Tick the items the current payer is responsible for

  2. The Amount to pay updates live, including their share of service charge, tax, and rounding

  3. Pick a payment method and complete the payment

  4. Repeat for the next payer — paid items disappear from the list automatically

Note: You can only select whole items, not partial quantities. If one guest had 2 of a 4-pack, use Custom amount instead.

‼️ Once an item is paid, it can't be selected again. If a payment is cancelled, the items become available again automatically.

Custom amount

Enter any amount the payer wants to settle. Use this when:

  • A guest wants to pay a specific figure (e.g. ฿500 cash, the rest later)

  • One guest's portion is going on a room charge while the others pay separately

  • The split doesn't fit evenly or by items

  1. Type the amount

  2. Confirm — the outstanding balance updates

  3. Take that payment, then continue with the remaining balance using any split option

Mixing modes

Each payment is independent, so you can mix modes within one bill. For example: take ฿500 as a Custom amount first, then split the remainder evenly between the other guests.

Tips

If Tips is enabled at the outlet, the POS prompts for a tip before each split's payment screen so each guest can add their own.

FAQ

Can I undo a split payment?
Yes — cancel or void the individual payment from the order's payment list. The outstanding balance is restored and any items selected for that payment become selectable again.

What if a terminal payment hangs?
Tap Mark as paid on the terminal status screen if the payment went through on the terminal but the POS didn't get the confirmation. This finalises the split.

Can a customer-facing screen do this too?
This article is about the POS-side flow used by your staff. Online QR payments (PromptPay, TrueMoney) work within Split evenly and Split by items as one of the payment-method options.
